This terrestrial species grows to about two meters and has beautiful (Latin: pulcher, hence "pulcherrima") large, white flowers with pink/purple veins or striations on the lip. The inflorescence is elongated in a zig-zag pattern.
In Ecuador, Sobralia pulcherrima has been found growing in both the coastal and Andean areas, from 500 to 2000 meters, on the western slopes of the western Cordillera. Specifically, it has been collected from montane cloud forest in the provinces of Pichincha, Carchi, Imbabura, and Cotopaxi.
The photo above left was taken in-situ in the Macquipucuna Preserve, Nanegal, Ecuador. See the

According to Delfina de Araujo, this species requires cool conditions, high light and good ventilation in cultivation.
